Day Three:
So after Dad and Cole left for the slopes, my godmother and I took our sweet time getting ready and then headed out to Canyons Resort to take a gondola ride up the mountain.
We got stuck talking to woman who kind of turned her nose up at my chosen profession but I got to admire this view so I chose to focus on that instead. Mind over matter right?
After that we went to see 12 Years a Slave which I'm embarrassed that it took me that long to watch. I was supposed to see it when I went home for Thanksgiving but the timing was just off and I never got around to it. Regardless, what an emotional film. So deserving of its awards.
After that we joined the boys and took a funicular up the the St. Regis Hotel at Deer Valley.
A funicular is a curious little tram-like vehicle used specifically on mountains I suppose. If you've seen Grand Budapest Hotel, you will recognize the term and possibly the image from some of the miniature shots of the hotel itself.
I also didn't realize that the St. Regis is a hotel chain. I always think of the line from Annie where Lily St. Regis proclaims that she was named after the hotel!
Once we got up there, we had drinks (just hot chocolate but it was still nice!) and took some pictures against the mountain backdrop.
(potential Christmas card material?)
And admired the view some more and talked about filthy rich people and me needing business cards.
There was also a special 5:30 ceremony in which a waiter opened a bottle of champagne with a saber and talked about Napoleon. "In victory one deserves champagne but in defeat, one needs it" or something like that, I don't know I had a drink in my hand at that point so I was focusing on that.
Then we headed back down the mountain and I listened to a little girl ask her mom if she was afraid of honey bees. I was a happy camper.
Cole and I then took selfies in the car, specifically in the Rite Aid parking lot, while we waited for Dad to pick something up. We then had a sing-a-long dance party on the way back to the house and it was great. Tomorrow is my last day with them here so I'm kind of savoring these little moments as best as I can.
Today was the first time I was kind homesick for Chicago at all and it was more that I missed my friends more than anything. I will be happy to get back on Tuesday but I think I really will miss Utah.
