The Journey So Far

So my spring break unofficially started Thursday afternoon and while most people that I know headed off to warm destinations or back home, I went in the complete opposite direction and met my Dad and brother in Utah.

My godparents (who are freaking awesome by the way) live out there and the fam (minus Mom) go out each year to go skiing and see them. This year I decided enough was enough and regardless of the fact that I don't ski, I was determined to make it out.

As it turns out, this was the best possible option. After the stressful half-semester I just had, I needed a place to disconnect from city life for at least a few days.

Today I went for a walk in the woods by myself and it was great. I took a selfie to commemorate the adventure.

And then I settled on the river bank and filled out some postcards and wrote a poem:

Woodland, UT

A single lightbulb
Behind a pane of red glass
Turn right-
After Wolf Creek Road
And don't forget
To always look up

But seriously, I can't get over how beautiful this place is. I have never seen so many different shades of the color brown and I have never enjoyed it so much.

There are also horses on a ranch right across the road and it makes me giddy to see them. For a girl who loves horses, I was like the one little girl who never got a horse themed birthday party. Is 19 too old for that? I'm kidding. Sort of.

I also got to see the Winter Olympic Park from when Salt Lake hosted in 2002. They still run Olympic Trials out here as well as training. Both of my godparents were volunteers and my godfather was on the medical staff. He was telling me yesterday about how he treated three of the American gold medalists in Sochi when they were children.

I got these nifty socks that look like cowboy boots and I think that's an accomplishment in itself.

This has been good bonding time with my brother as well. I haven't seen him since January when I went back to school and we're pretty bad with communication. We watched John Mulaney's comedy special New In Town last night and we've been making the same exact jokes in sync since then.

Oh yeah, here's another selfie from Park City.

"Loosey" the moose(y)

Park City is a mix of what I imagine an old wild west town was like and the color content of the oops bin at Home Depot in the best way possible. It's a colorful (literally and spiritually) old mining town that I could wander through for days on end. I'm dying to come back for Sundance (and maybe bring Boy with me).

Oh and they have a Banksy so yeah! That's super cool too!

This really only covers day 1 and 2. I have another half of my trip to get through and maybe I'll do another photo update then. I know we're going into Salt Lake City on Monday to see the Mormon Temple which I'm excited about.
Until then my loves!
