I like showers because for ten minutes or so, you can get as lost in your head as you want and no one can question it.
No one can catch you staring off into space and annoyingly ask you what you’re thinking about and then you’re forced to uncomfortably blurt out things like “kissing!” or “President Andrew Jackson!”.
As long as you remember to eventually wash the soap off of your body, you are good to go.
You often put words to my own experiences. This, my dear, is what differentiates a good writer from one who achieves greatness. Why? Because people are drawn to their own stories. They want to relate, to know they belong, that others share their experiences in some way. Although most of us desire to 'march to our own drums' so to speak, we also crave a sense of belonging...of connection.
ReplyDeleteYour short bursts of prose, on these pages of your blog, are an introduction to the world of who you are and what you are able to achieve with your audience.
You are putting yourself 'out there' and in doing so you are drawing on people's own experiences (whether or not they comment or even see your words now).
What you are doing is perfect. It's exactly what the world needs. You evoke empathic feelings. You draw readers in saying "Here I am. I'm naked and vulnerable. Join me in being real."
You are brilliantly insightful - sharing what millions of people experience but don't dare to speak of. THAT is what makes you special. (well, I'm sure you are quite special in other ways, but I don't know you outside of this blog).
Keep at it, Jaclyn.

**My nonprofit org. was born in the shower, among many more powerful and profound moments. I think it is because I am exposed and alone in there, and my self-conscious thoughts dare to come to the service at that time. My 'shower thoughts' have changed my life.
