I Like Right Now

I like right now.

At 10:14 on a Wednesday morning after everyone else has left the apartment for class, I have approximately two sips of coffee left in my mug but I have an inkling there is a bit more left in the pot.

I can curl up on the couch at exactly the right angle to see the solitary patch of sky that exists between our wall and the abandoned building next door. For the most part, everything is quiet which is astounding for a building full of kids with newfound independence. Occasionally, a train will pass with it's persistent bell but it is a sound that makes me feel grateful to be here.

Confronted with alone time, I am free to utter my German textbook phrases aloud for the first time since Monday. Danke, danke, danke!

Or I could leisurely get ready for class. This involves standing in front of my closet, stuck in a pose that evokes The Thinker and then singing my way through an extra long shower.

It's a Wednesday morning.
If I make it through today, I get to see my father tomorrow night.
If I make it through tomorrow, I'll have a three day weekend stretching out in front of me.
If I make it through the weekend, I have the promise of another Wednesday morning at 10:14 waiting on the other side.

But for now, I'm content to sit here and enjoy the quiet.
I like right now.
