"What a Beautiful Day For a Wedding" said the Weatherman

Today was the day for the very last drops of summer to be squeezed out onto the city of Chicago. I knew I wasn't the only one to get the memo when I saw a stream of college kids with distinctive bed head spilling out onto the sidewalk at a much earlier hour than was necessary.

Everyone seemed to be out enjoying the light breeze and practically cloudless sky. Granted, many of them could be tacked on to an ever growing group of orange and blue jerseys on account of the Illinois State game.

Despite the apparent sports frenzy, Grant Park was stuffed to the gills with people simply enjoying each other's company. Among them were several pairs of newlyweds taking part in portrait sessions.

As someone who gets emotional during commercials, you let me watch wedding pictures being taken and I will fall straight into a million pieces. To watch two people commit to each other is beautiful. To watch them look at each other like they are the only two souls in the state of Illinois at that very moment, that's something so distinctly moving that I can't help but grin like an idiot at them.

I have made it a personal goal of mine to be happy for complete strangers more often.
For the business man on the train with a dozen red roses, I hope your partner loves them.
For the girl checking a book out at the library, I hope you really like the ending and the author has written more you can get after you're done.
For the jogger getting a post run latte at Starbucks, I hope the barista spells your name right on the cup.

I have thought solely about the trials and tribulations of my own personal happiness for far too long without realizing that a huge portion of my own joy comes from seeing others happy. I hope this means something moving forward. I would like to think that in the future on my wedding day, there's someone  grinning like an idiot because seeing me happy has made them happy as well.
