One year ago today, I got this crazy idea that I was going to start a blog. I'm pretty sure the impulse was at least half out of panic of losing touch with everyone I had ever known. After all, I was a month a way from the biggest change of my entire life: I was going to leave my hometown and move halfway across the country to start college (a move, I have never once regretted).
The commitment itself was absurd. I couldn't get more than seven pages of a story written before moving on to the next thing that caught my attention. This has caused me a lot of annoyance when I try to re-read my own work and then get stuck saying "and then what happens? Goddammit past Jaclyn!" but I digress.
I did an interview with a Chicago food blogger in the fall who told me that commitment was key. Most blogs don't get past ten posts before they are shuttered or left to rot in the internet graveyard for unwritten ideas.
I thought about my fledgling little blog, full of aimless posts about little facets of my young life and knew instantly that it was going to be something very important to me.
For those of you that have been reading for awhile, you have surely seen me grow as a writer within these posts. I know that I've gained such written maturity that I didn't think possible and I thank each and every one of you for the support that you have given me along the way. Without your kind words and the depth of each insight you have provided me with, this blog wouldn't be what it is.
Twelve months and 102 posts (this makes 103!) later, not only has the blog grown but I have as well.
I am very grateful for that.
Thank you and here's to a continuation of this growth in the months and posts to come.
