If I write you a letter, I hope you'll smile when you first hold it in your hands after getting it out of the post box or finding it on your bedspread where someone so lovingly placed it there.
If I write you a letter, I will pick out the perfect stationary. It might be something from a hotel in a far off country or marked with Par Avion. The paper and envelope might match or they might not but I hope it makes you think of adventures.
If I write you a letter, I will take extra time to write the address on the front, making sure I develop and understand every curve in your name. I will write over it to darken my point- this is for you.
If I write you a letter, I will try not to make mistakes but I write with a pen and sometimes my head gets ahead of my hands. I will not scribble these words out, only strike them through once with dark ink. I am only human. I know.
If I write you a letter, it will not make sense. I will write about the mundane events on the street or the things that I see out of the corner of my eyes. It will be a verbal zoo of confusion but it will all make me think of you.
If I write you a letter, I will not tell you I love you. At least not in so many words. If will come from the slant of a letter, in a beautifully crafted swear word, in a anecdote about a mangy dog that has no resolution. If I write you a letter, I love you in one way or another. In one form or another.
If I write you a letter, I hope you tie it up with a piece of string and keep it hidden in your closet or in your dresser, under your favorite sweater. If you do, I hope you know and I hope you understand.
This is so beautiful! I love this. :)
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, I keep your letter on my desk, because it's easier to read it and it's not something I am able to bury.
